MEET THE TEAM
Mike Armiger
Director of Rugby
Mike currently leads the coaching teams across the Men's and Women's sections of the club.

Mike's coaching resume is extensive, having coached at Cardiff Blues Academy, Wales U20s, England Students and the University of Bristol 1st XV as well as many other clubs over the years. After taking the reins as head coach in 2017-18, Mike has been instrumental in the success of the UBH. Having led us to 2 NAMS cup titles, 3 NAMS plate titles as well as a victory in Varsity and the retention of the Ottie Uden CUP from Nantes. Mike works with professional atheltes and within the field of mental health and wellbeing. Mike would be modest about his achievements but has enabled the link between Galenicals - Bristol medics sport - and Ted's Friends, a charity that provides its ambassadors with Mental Health First Aid training, of which we are proud to have several ambassadors and hope to continue this.
It is in this way Mike has had a lasting effect on the UBH and is heavily involved in strategies which make a positive difference to the lives of young men and women throughout the university, proving we are more than just a rugby club.

Mike, the coaches, the captains and the whole club celebrate and sustain a culture of success, inclusivity, positivity and care within Bristol Medics rugby.
Ryley Murtagh
Skills Coach
Ryley joined the club as an RFU Level 2 qualified, DBS checked, aspiring professional rugby coach. He comes with significant experience for his age, coaching XPro rugby for Luke Arscott and James Hall, Gordano Ladies and U15s and U16s at Broad Plain, his local club.
He is currently studying a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport (Rugby) at the Bristol Bears Community Foundation. He is the first ever student to take part in the course and is looking to gain experience working with all aspects of the club - but mainly backs play and skills coaching.

Alongside this Ryley has been working at Bristol Bears Academy coaching at the South Bristol DPP centre. The club has allowed Ryley to gain one-to-one experience from Mike and Paul at an aspiring University Club with players of his own age group, hopefully providing a stepping stone to the professional coaching world of rugby.
